2011 Hyundai Sonata vs 2010 Toyota Camry XLE Comparison
The 2010 Toyota Camry is in a unique position – it remains to be the top-selling model in the market despite of the recent troubles that the company has met. Therefore, Hyundai is closing in on their closest rival in an effort to steal that throne and showcase to consumers what it has got to offer.
Auto consumers are enthralled by the beauty of the 2010 Toyota Camry, but neither for its shape nor its sheetmetal. But rather, its exterior styling was a major leap since the series was first introduced into the market. It has become somewhat of a modern standard which is a far cry from the relatively ordinary styling that the 2011 Hyundai Sonata carries with it. That is not to say that the latter lacks some merit too since swoopy exterior design and a coupe-like statement earned a nod from critics in the industry.
Moving into the interior from the outside, the camry is built for luxury with its upholstered leather interiors. Meanwhile, the Sonata’s interiors might appeal more to the modern consumers due to its stylish and up-to-date refreshing appeal. The dashboard comes with a clean design with all the necessary buttons at easy access. Overall, the quality of the interior materials for both models is closely even, although it is clear that both are not up to par with luxury vehicles yet.
One feature worth noting for both models that is the steering wheel. 2011 Hyundai Sonata opted to offer steering wheels that are leather-upholstered, which is not just about styling but also to provide better grip on the wheel. Sadly though, this was neglected for the new Sonata such that they have backslid, opting to use such materials as urethane and slippery leather. This is where 2010 Camry earns the upperhand – it is made out of grippy leather that goes all the way around the rim.
In terms of seating configuration and the interior space, it is a close fight between the two. The 2010 Toyota Camry disappoints with its front seats, although in comparison the seating quality for Toyota’s model is superior in quality from that of the Sonata. The 2011 hyundai Sonata is a sure winner though in terms of leg room, since it has been increased by up to 1.8 inches to provide additional space and beneficial for long-legged drivers and passengers. Not so much luck with the headroom though, since you’d probably have to crouch down.
Moving onto the most essential aspect of both vehicles – powertrain capacity – the 2011 Toyota Camry will be equipped with the 3.5-liter V6 engine with a maximum of 268 horsepower. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata does not offer the V6, although a turbo engine is scheduled to arrive in fall, which is capable of producing a maximum of 274 horsepower.
Drivers of the Camry will be in pure driving heaven due to its smooth, powerful, and noise-free performance. On the other hand, the Sonata engine was decently quiet and smooth such that you’d be delighted knowing that it never sounds rough. On the outside, you can hear a loud clanking sound but thankfully, this is not noticeable if you are on the inside.
When it comes to fuel economy, the powerful V6 engine of the new Camry offers more fuel efficiency that averages at 22 mpg. The Sonata manages to stay within that range though, so you won’t be disappoint with this one either.
Indeed, both vehicles each have their own strong and weak points, both on the outside and the inside. 2010 Camry is fast emerging still as the top contender within its class. But to its merit, the 2011 Sonata have its fair share of redeeming qualities too, but refuses to face Camry head on. In the end, it is all about which aspects you value most and you can weigh in how each vehicle performs on them to take your pick.
