2012 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Review

Ford claims to be the largest car manufacturing company to provide well equipped vehicles for the police department of United States. Ford is introducing the specially designed 2012 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor which can be expected to be seen on the roads not before beginning of year 2012. Before conceptualizing the design and features of the vehicle Ford performed research with the police department to meet the requirements and expectations of the department. The improved technologies would certainly offer added convenience and easy drive for the officers. The police SUV is based on the design of 2011 Ford Explorer.

2012 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor is designed with the assurance of improvement in terms of fuel efficiency upto 20 percent. Under the metal skin the vehicle would be offered with the pack of 3.5 liter displacement and V-6 engine accompanied with Ti-VCT technology. This mechanical pack is powered to generate more than 280 horsepower which is equivalent to 208 Kw. This engine is paired with six speed automatic transmission. The engine is designed to operate efficiently using both all wheel drive and front wheel drive mechanism. The mechanical pack is compatible with E85. The muscular architecture is based on a set of 18 inch steel wheels.

While conceptualizing the 2012 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, the company has given more attention towards the standard safety features of the vehicle to offer safety to the officers while performing duty. The rear portion of the vehicle would be fabricated to sustain the collision with the acceleration of 75 miles per hour. Ford has designed its unique technology to maintain the vehicle grip during curve taking at higher acceleration. This technology is termed as state of art curve control technology. Safety features would also include Ford SYNC used for wireless voice communication, BLIS elaborated as Blind Spot Information System working on sensors to detect and range vehicles around, Rear view camera, Reverse system with object sensors and rollover stability control. Additionally the vehicle comes added with Safety Canopy side curtain airbags which protects the passengers from internal collisions.

The interior of 2012 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor is generously spacious with specially designed architecture to provide added convenience to the officers while on duty. The cabin seats are reformed with lowered bolster to facilitate the accommodation of utility belts. The console area is wider to carry as many types of equipment necessary to perform the officer’s duty. The center console is kept free from gear shifter unit to provide room for computer. The steering wheel is mounted with the button to operate sirens and lights without distracting the attention from roads. The second row of the vehicle uses vinyl upholstery which can be easily cleaned and folded to flat to further enhance the cargo space as police requires additional space for K-9 officers and for conduction SWAT operations. In addition to this the cargo space provides room to store spare tire for emergency purpose.
