It is hard to see why customer would be willing to buy a netbook in place of the notebooks. But Acer AOD255E-13493’s low price of $268 at Walmart makes it a potential interesting buy if you are really budget constrained. The Acer AOD255E-13493 is powered by Intel Atom N455 processor which is a single core processor at 1.66 GHz frequency and comes with 512 KB of L2 Cache. As far as the positive aspects of AOD255E-13493 is concerned, it comes with integrated webcam , a large number of ports including USB and LAN / Ethernet connector and a decent 10.1 inch screen driven by LED backlit. Let us taje a look at the individual components to this notebook.

Acer AOD255E-13493 has Atom 455, the entry level single core processors especially made for the netbooks. Do not expect high performance with this notebook. However, its modest 1.66 GHz frequency will allow you to surf internet, check emails and do other normal computing works easily. You can still do high performance applications, just expect some normal lag.

Memory and Hard Disk

The mere 1 GB RAM is a weak point in this netbook. The Windows 7 Starter Edition that comes with it uses less memory, however, the RAM will be out of space the moment you run more than few applications. In that case it will have to go back and forth between the hard disk reducing the performance. Obviously the notebook is not good if you switch between applications quite often. The Hard Disk of 250 GB on the other hand is good enough. Even many notebooks come with only slightly higher 320 GB Hard disk.

AOD255E-13493 comes with 10.1 inch WSVGA display driven by LED backlit. The graphics is driven by Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 and has 64MB of dedicated video memory. The graphics does support the DirectX 9

The AOD255E-13493 comes with a large number of connectivity options. Here is the list

– USB 2.0 – three of them
– A VGA port to display contents to a projector for presentation.
– Headphone/Mic
– two in one memory card reader.

Other Features

The 1.3 Megapixel integrated camera and the wireless LAN are worth mentioning. The three cell Lithium Ion battery in the Acer AOD255E-13493 lasts close to 4 hours.

Even with its low price of $268, we have hesitation in recommending this product to you. It has only 1 GB RAM, a slow processor. Better invest $400 and get a full laptop, unless extreme mobility is your prime concern.

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% positive. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
