AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor Review
AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor is the new processor that has been launched by AMD for desktop computers. AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor operates at a CPU frequency of 3.2 Giga Hertz. It is a dual core processor.
There is an integrated memory controller and 16 bit hyper transport link available in AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor. The memory controller operates at a speed of 533 mega hertz and the 16 bit hyper transport link operates at a speed of 2 giga hertz. The processor has 938 dedicated pins and supports socket types AM2+ and AM3. This processor was launched during the month of May in the year 2010. Regor is the processor core which is used for manufacturing of this processor and the core stepping mode is C3. Core stepping is the process in which the core can tweak itself based on the demands that is raised dynamically to maintain the optimum performance.
There is a level two cache of 2 Mega bytes available in total. The cache memory contains the information that has been used recently by the processor which helps the processor improve its performance. There is an integrated floating point unit available which enables faster operations and this one is a dual core processor. The Advanced instruction set extensions are supported by AMD Athlon II X2 B26 dual core Processor, the instruction set extensions supported are SSE, SSE2, SSE3 and SSE4A. Instruction set extensions is nothing but few of the new instruction that are added to the original processor’s instruction set.
The advanced bit manipulation feature is supported in this processor. The advanced bit manipulation is nothing but simply two extra instructions namely LZCNT and POPCNT. LZCNT is used for counting the number of zeros that are there in lead position of a word and POPCNT is used for counting the number of bits that are set to one in a word. AMD64 technology is also supported in AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor, this enables the user to feel the performance of 64 bit computing. 64 bit computing is nothing but the ability of the processor to do 64 bit calculations at a time. Simply speaking the accumulator of processor can hold 64 bits at a time.
Enahanced virus protection or Execute disable bit support is available in AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor. This is nothing but disabling the execution of programs which are suspected to be viruses. Cool n Quiet 3.0 is implemented in AMD Athlon II X2 B26 Processor. This cool n quiet 3.0 is nothing but to keep the heat dissipation to a minimum and to make the processor work such that it does not make much of a noise. Dual Dynamic Power Management is also available, which changes the voltages supplied to cores and the memory controller based on the usage. AMD Cool core technology is also present. This does not have a integrated graphics controller. This is a cost effective processor which meets everyone’s performance needs.
