AMD Turion II X2 N530 – dual core processor
AMD Turion II N530 is a dual core processor with core frequency of 2.5 GHz. It is the step big brother of the AMD Turion II P520 which is a 2.3 GHz part. The Turion II N530 also consumes higher power – 35 Watts as compared to just 25 Watts by Turion II P520.
The Turion II N530 has integrated DDR3-1066 memory controller which makes the transfer between the processor and the memory ultra fast.
The transfer between the processor and the chipset is done using the HyperTransport Bus at 1800 MHz ( or 3600 Giga Transfer per second). The HyperTransport is a highly scalable differential bus with massive bandwidth. AMD has been the pioneer in the use of the differential bus for processor to processor and the processor to chip set communication. Intel has just followed the AMD’s footsteps with its newer processor interconnections.
The Turion II N530 processor offer serious competition to the similarly clocked Intel Core 2 processors. The Intel processor at same clock speeds perform slightly better than the Turion processors. Also, the higher cache memory in the Intel core 2 processors gives it slight edge over the turion processors. The Turion II N530 has 2MB of cache ( 1 MB for each of the two cores).
So it all boils down to the pricing. If you get AMD’s Turion II N530 at somewhat lower price compared to the similarly clocked intel core 2 processr, it is still a good deal.
If you are a notebook buyer, your may like to make a comparison with the overall pricing of the similarly clocked core 2 processor based notebook. A cheaper Turion II N530 based processor may not be a bad choice.
Manufactured on 45nm technology AMD Turion II N530 has 64 bit support and fits in S1 socket. The manufacturer part number for the Turion II N530 is TMN530DCR23GM. The benchmarking numbers are not yet available. There are not many notebooks coming with the Turion II N530 processors. Among the few that are available with the Turion II N530 processor include HP Pavilion 16 dv6z.
The comparable intel processors that you may like to consider include Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 ( 2 GHz, 3MB Cache), Intel Core Duo T2700( 2.33 GHz, 2 MB Cache).
