Asus ROG G73SW-TZ083V joins the rank of the latest series of the Sandy Bridge based notebooks launched recently. It has a large 17.3 inch LCD screen and is powered by the Intel’s quad-core Core i7-2630QM, a 2.0 GHz processor.

Key Features at a glance

– Powered by the 2.0 GHz Core i7-2630QM
– 17.3 inch LCD screen
– Graphics by 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
– Two 500 GB Hard drives total 1 TB
– Blu Ray player
– HDMI output
– Wired and Wireless network connectivity and Bluetooth Support

It may be worthwhile to take some time to review the individual components of the Asus ROG G73SW-TZ083V.

The Processor

The core i7-2630QM that powers the Asus ROG G73SW-TZ083V, is a quad core Sandy Bridge processor, clocked nominally at 2.0 GHz. The Sandy Bridge processors have provided some architectural improvements over the earlier Arrandale architecture, including a unified dies that has the GPU core and the CPU core in a single die. We should be expecting a CPU performance improvement of the order of 10 to 15% over the similar Arrandale base i7 processor.

In brief, the core i7-2630QM has been reported to be blazingly fast for the notebooks, and you can actually feel it if you have earlier used, for example, the intel core i3 or core 2 based processors.

The Display

The noticeable feature of Asus ROG G73SW-TZ083V is the large 17.3 inch LCD screen. The graphics is driven by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M, that will give you decent performance, if you plan to use it for gaming. The display has a full HD resolution at 1920×1080. The notebook comes with HDMI connector, and, therefore, if you throw the content of the display on the HDMI, you can enjoy the display on a Full HD resolution HDTV without the loss of resolution.

The RAM and Hard Disk

Strarredreviews, believe that the 4 GB RAM is decent for many applications and should be enough for most of your tasks. The Two hard disks of 500 GB each is yet another feature, which increases the reliability. For example, you can use one of the drives to back up the data of the main hard drive.

Other Features

The Asus ROG G73SW-TZ083V come with 2.0 Megapixel Video Camera built into the LCD bezel. The Blu-Ray Disc Drive can be used to watch Blu Ray movie and can be used to burn DVDs.

Bottom Line

Asus does not enjoy the brand loyality as do the Sony and the Toshiba users do. This notebook however, should win customers confidence, by being one of the latest state of the art machine at an affordable price. While the current street price at $1800 is slightly high, we do expect the prices to move downwards as there are a large number of notebooks launched with the Core i7-2630QM processor.
