HP 210-2130NR Netbook PC review

January 11th, 2011 No comments

The HP’s 210-2130NR netbook PC comes with 10.1 inch screen and is powered by Atom N455 processor from Intel that is clocked at 1.66 GHz. The Atom N455 is a single core processor, which pales in performance in front of the new dual core processors that also comes in low power modes.

The HP 210-2130NR has 1 GB of RAM which is be a little bit too low if you plan to run a large number of programs simultaneously. Though the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter edition, the OS that comes with this notebook, does take a small foot print, the 1 GB of memory could be a bit too small if you are running multiple applications in parallel. While the RAM is a little low, the hard disk is ample in this netbook. The 250 GB of hard disk should give out enough space to you to do all your works. Many of the entry level notebooks have margibally higher 320 GB hard disk.

The display in the HP 210-2130NR is a 10.1″ diagonal LCD that has 1024 x 600 resolution. It is backlit driven by LED giving you brighter display. The display is driven by Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150.

The HP notebook comes with wired Ethernet LAN and in built Wireless connectivity option. Both these come with almost all the netbooks that come now a days, so, there is nothing specifically new here.

Other notable feature includes Built-in webcam and Multi format media card reader. There are 3 USB ports that you can use to cinnect USB devices.

In terms of the specifications we have found HP 210-2130NR same as the Toshiba NB505-N508BL and the Acer AOD255E-13493. All of them are powered by the Intel Atom N455 and have identical 1 GB of memory. They all come with 250 GB Hard drive. In terms of pricing, here are the street prices as observed at Walmart

HP 210-2130NR – $328
Toshiba NB505-N508BL – $298
Acer AOD255E-13493 – $268

We do not see any specific reason for HP 210-2130NR at higher prices. You may possibly invest $75 of so extra and get a notebook instead, unless you are looking for extreme mobility. If price is your concern, you may want to look at Acer AOD255E-13493 for $268 or the Toshiba NB505-N508BL at $298.

The HP 210-2130NR is identical to the HP 210-2130NR , except that the colors of the two netbooks are different.

HP 210-2180NR Netbook review

The HP’s 210-2180NR netbook has 10.1 inch screen and is powered by the Intel Atom N455 processor clocked at 1.66 GHz. The Atom N455 is a single core processor, which obviously does not stand nowhere in performance in front of the new dual core processors that also comes in low power modes.

The HP 210-2180NR comes with 1 GB of RAM which could be a little bit too low if you plan to run a large number of programs simultaneously. Toshiba NB505-N508GN NB505-N508OR NB505-N508BN netbooks

January 11th, 2011 No comments

The Toshiba’s NB505 series of notebooks have four different part numbers that are distinguished with the last two letters in their part number. The NB505-N508GN is green in color, NB505-N508OR is orange in color while the NB505-N508BN is brown in color. Not included in this review is the NB505-N508BL, which comes in blue color.

The NB505-N508 series comes with Intel Atom N455 processor. The Intel Atom N455 is a single core 1.66 GHz processor that should be good enough for your computing needs.

The review below has been taken from the review of the NB505-N508BL – the blue version. But, should apply to the NB505-N508GN NB505-N508OR NB505-N508BN as well, the only difference being the color.

We chose Toshiba NB505-N508BL Netbook as it is one of the lowest cost netbook available under $300. While there are bunch of $268 netbooks from Acer, quality conscious customers may prefer Toshiba over the Acer. At $30 extra price you may possibly be getting slightly better brand name.

Toshiba NB505-N508BL is powered by Intel Atom N455 processor, a single core 1.66 GHz clock frequency. The processor was never designed to be a processing horsepower. Instead, its main aim was low power and the mobility. Obviously, if you are looking for more processing power, this notebook is not the one for you.

The NB505-N508BL from Toshiba comes with 1GB DDR2 SDRAM memory that according to the specification listed can be expanded to to 2GB. Makes sure that you do not run out of the memory for the kind of applications you will be running. If you open browser, an xl sheet and a word document and couple of more applications, you will run out of memory and processing will be slow. If most of your works involve surfing the net , emails and document editing, you should be fine.

This Toshiba notebook comes with 250GB SATA hard drive that can potentially save over 130 hours of HD video. As far as the Hard disk is concerned, there should not be any issue with the space.

The display has a size of 10.1 inch driven by Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150. The quality of the display itself is pretty good. The NB505-N508BL comes with wired and wireless networks.

Other positive features include the webcam and microphone that will allow you to do the chat with your family and friends. It does come with 3 USB ports and a VGA connector that you can use if you are giving a demo.

In general, starred reviews thinks that netbooks in general are not worth buying unless extreme mobility is your prime concern. And this recommendation applies to Toshiba NB505-N508BL. You may like to spend an extra $100 and buy a notebook instead.

Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 Review Netbook

January 10th, 2011 No comments

Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 is a 11.6 inch screen Netbook powered by AMD Athlon II Neo 1.3 GHz Dual-Core K325 Processor. It comes with 2 GB of RAM and 250 GB of hard disk. The Netbooks never seemed to really take off with the prices of the notebooks falling and newer tablets coming book. However, you may find Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 worth a look with its decent performance and nice screen. Let us take a look at the individual components of this netbook.

Processor

Acer Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 is powered by the AMD Athlon II Neo Dual-Core K325 Processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. The AMD Athlon II Neo Dual-Core K325 comes with ample 2 MB of cache. While this processor is not one of the greatest processors in for small netbooks, it will allow you to perform all you home computing easily. Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 comes with AMD M880G Express chipset. The chipset is an IC on the motherboard, which allows a processor to communicate with the peripheral.

Memory and Hard Disk

Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 comes with 2 GB of DDR3 SDRAM memory. This much of memory is generally just good enough for all of your entry level tasks. You may expand it to 4 GB in case some of your applications are heavy in the memory requirements. Th hard Drive capacity is 250 GB.

Display

The display in the Aspire AS1551-4650 is 11.6 inch in size with WXGA resolution (1366 x 768). The screen looks bright with LED backlighting. The edged of the display are crisp because of the high pixel density ( large number of pixels in relatively smaller size). The graphics is driven by ATI Radeon HD4225 Graphics Controller that comes with 384 MB of VRAM

Other Features

Interestingly this netbook does come with and HDMI port which will be highly useful to present any demonstration on LCD screen or a projector. It has 3 USB ports and comes with wired and wireless internet connectivity. The built in speakers and microphone comes handy, in case you are looking for audio or video chats.

There are few issues that you should be aware of about this netbook, in case you are planning to buy ( There are deals that will offer you at $350 or so). The first is that this netbook does not come with any DVD drive. So, if , for example you need to install a program that comes on a DVD, you may find issues as a novice. You will have to download the program from the internet, which may eat up a large time if the program size is large. This is one reason for starredreviews, not to recommend this netbook.

Secondly the prices of the notebooks are realyy dirt cheap. You may invest $100 or so more and get a decent 15.4″ in netbook with a decent dual processor. It will come with optical DVD drive. Unless mobility is your prime concern, we do not recommend this netbook.
