Core i5-460M Vs i3-2310M difference, difference and Benchmark
Core i5-460M Vs i3-2310M difference, difference and Benchmark by Starred Reviews
The i5-460M Vs i3-2310M make an odd comparison, one is core i3 , other is core i5. One is 1st generation core i5 processor, the other is second generation core i5 processor.
But the tables below goes on to prove that the Second generation Sandy Bridge processors are “NOT ALWAYS” faster than the 1st generation Nehalem processors.
In this case the higher clock frequency and the turbo boost is too good for the Core i3-2310M. However, the missing story from the table below is the graphics performance and Core i3-2310M should easily beat core i5-260M ( assuming both of them use the integrated graphics).

Some more details of Core i5-460M
The core i5-460M is a Mid level moderate performance notebook processor with impressive performance as evident by its benchmark results.
The integrated GPU provides entry level graphics performance. The GPU supports independent turbo boost with maximum turbo frequency of 766 MHz over its base frequency of 500 MHz.The Core i5-460M does not support the AES instructions and Intel Trusted Instructions.
Some more details of Core i3-2310M
The Core i3-2310M is the second generation Intel Core i3 processor improving significantly upon the architecture that evolved from Arrandale. Although turbo boost is not available in the core i3-2310M ( The newer turbo 2.0 technology, that increases the time for which processor can be in the boosted state, is available only on the second generation core i5 and i7 processors), the processor still shows significant performance improvement over similarly clocked 1st generation core i3 processor. The more significant improvement has been in the area of integrated graphics unit
