Elpida memory EDE1116AEBG-8E-F review

Starred reviews not only brings reviews of the consumer goods, autos and daily use articles but also reviews of the electronics parts, Integrated circuits, and technology firms.

In todays review we will look at the Elpida DDR2 memory with part number EDE1116AEBG-8E-F. This memory part is used in the freescale i.MX51 evaluation board from freescale. With a density of 1 GBits or 125 Megabytes, this memory chip is organized in 8M words x 16 bits x 8 Banks. In the MX51 board 4 such parts have been used to make up a total of 512 Megabytes of memory.

Unfortunately the memory is not available from Elpida. When enquired Elpida replies with the following.

Thanks for your inquiry, however it’s necessary for me to inform you that Elpida is not able to support your request. This device is under severe allocation with approximately a 6-month lead time. Sorry for the inconvenience. May I suggest you try another DRAM supplier (i.e. Samsung, Hynix, Micron, etc.).

It is therefore apparent that Elpida is either not willing to manufacture this part or does not have enough bandwidth to handle this part. In any case it is better to look at other established manufacturer if you are using this part in your design.

Winbond W971GG6JB-25 or the the part number HYB18T1G160BF-5 available at digikey could be possible replacement.]

The Micron MT47H64M16HR-25E:H is also a potentially good replacement.
