Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Vs Core i3-2100 comparison

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Vs Core i3-2100 comparison by StarredReviews.com

The newer 2nd generation core i3 processor –  Core i3-2100 significantly outperforms the Core 2 Duo E8400, even when we do not count the Integrated graphics unit in the Core i3-2100.

There has been several architectural advancements in the Core i3-2100 ( the Sandy Bridge), as compared to the Core 2 Duo E8400. The core i3-2100 has integrated memory controller and a faster differential DMI Bus to communicate with the chipset.  The higher clock frequency is not the only reason why Core i3-2100 is faster than the Core 2 Duo E8400.

If you are planning to build a new desktop we strongly suggest in the favor of Core i3-2100 ( priced $117 at the time of writing). The core 2 Duo E8400 is not only expensive, it is also sluggish in performance in comparison.

Some more details of Core 2 Duo E8400

The Intel’s Core 2 Duo E8400 is rather expensive for the performance it provides. Based on older architecture, it does not has Integrated memory controller, which slows dows the processor to memory speed. Fortunately, larger 6 MB cache makes up for most of the long memory latency. The more recent 2nd generation Core ix Sandy Bridge processor has almost made the processor irrelevant for new purchases. You will easily find many sub $100 Athlon ii and Phenom ii quad core processors beating this chap in benchmarks.

Some more details of Core i3-2100

The Core i3-2100 is the second generation Intel Core i3 processor imroving significantly upon the architecture that evolved from Arrandale. Although turbo boost is not available in the core i3-2100 ( The newer turbo 2.0 technology, that increases the time for which processor can be in the boosted state, is available only on the second generation core i5 and i7 processors), the processor still shows significant performance improvement over similarly clocked 1st generation core i3 processor. The more significant improvement has been in the area of integrated graphics unit.
