Nufront 2816 – Cortex A9 SoC to power Notebooks

The Chinese company Nufront has announce the availability of its Dual Core ARM’s cortex A9 based¬†SOC – 2816 –¬†which is expected to be clocked between 1.6 GHz and 2 GHz. The biggest advantage of the ARM cortex based processor – it consumes just 2 watts of power. And since it is a SoC – it needs very little and inexpensive external harware to integrate the complete system.

The Nufront 2816 is based is not only going to power the notebooks and embedded platforms but also desktops. The Multi Core ATM Mali-400P graphics core video engine can easily deliver 1080p video at 30 Hz and can support various video formats including H.264 , H263 and Mpeg-4.

The Nufront 2816 has integrated DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller. It has a SATA2 controller. The basic block diagram is shown below.

The operating system support include Linux and Android besides Windows CE.

The Nufront 2816 will give a tough fight to the Intel’s Atom based processors.
