With the introduction of the GeForce GT-540M, nVidia expects to compete with the AMD’s Radeon HD 6500M and Radeon HD 6300 GPUs intended for the mobile segment.

During the recent years there has been more spurt in the demands for laptop and the GPU giants have been foraying into the arena of bringing out graphics components suitable for the mobile segments. Unlike the desktop counterparts, the mobile GPUS have specific requirements, including the low power, small space ( you can not have a big card with a Fan).

The GeForce GT-540M has been built with 40 nm lithography and incorporated 96 processor cores. It has 128 bit memory controller that can communicate wuth GDDR5 or DDR3. Power efficiency have been central in the design of this GeForce GT-540M.

The Maximum clock speed of the graphics section in 672 MHz while the maximum processor frequency is 1344 MHz.

The GeForce GT-540M does support DirectX 11. Its features include NVIDIA Optimus technology, PhysX, 3D Vision, 3DTV Play, and CUDA technologies, and support for NVIDIA Verde drivers.

We expect to see notebooks with graphics powered by GeForce GT-540M soon. The first notebooks seem to be coming from Acer and other are expected to follow the suit.
