Sony DCR-SX45 Review – Handycam Camcorder

Sony DCR-SX45 is a relatively inexpensive ( priced at $229 at amazon at the time of writing), camcorder that comes with  60x optical zoom. We found that there is scant information about the format of the recorded videos in other reviews. Therefore starred reviews chose to review this camera. Here are 10 important facts about the Sony DCR-SX45.

1. The camera records video in mpeg2 format at resolution of 720 x 480 /60i
2. The Sony DCR-SX45 has 60x optical zoom
3. You can record the video in the : Memory Stick PRO Duo as well as SD/SDHC/SDXC cards
4. The DCR-SX45 can be connected to the computer using USB for quick, easy and fast data transfer.
5. You can also record still images at 640×480 resolution, though the quality is not upto the mark.
6. The Box comes with Rechargeable Battery Pack NP-FV30, an AV cable, a guide, AC adapter and a USB connecting cable
7. The Sony DCR-SX45 comes with 3.0” touch-screen LCD at 230K pixels resolution.
8. The Sony Camcorder has an LED light that can can be used in low-light situations for capturing your video.
9. The face detection technology detects the smiles automatically and adjust settings in the video as well as still images.
10. The camera does NOT have HD recording facility

Bottom Line

Modern LCD HDTVs come with high resolition 1080p capability. It therefore may make sense to look for camera that can record in 1080p resolution, to take advantage of the HD capability of the modern TV. With this camera this is not possible. However, if you are looking for a portable, small camcorder, that is good in optics, you may still like to opt for Sony DCR-SX45.
