Toshiba Satellite T135D Notebook Review

April 8th, 2010 No comments

AMD refuses to give up giving tough fight to Intel. I have this Toshiba Satellite T135D notebook in my hand. More reviews coming up.

When it’s comes to buying a laptop or a notebook one can not ignore Toshiba. Now Toshiba has added a new model to it’s thin and light satellite T135 notebook series.  T135D is integrated with AMD dual core processor and is powered by ATI Graphics. Now question is why should one buy Toshiba satellite T135D with AMD processor over Intel integrated Toshiba T135?

The Build and Specification of Toshiba 135D are as following

Toshiba  Satellite T135D is powered by 1.6-GHz AMD Turion Neo X2 L625 processor and is integrated with expandable 4GB/8GB RAM. This 3.8 pounds ultra-portable laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) as operating system. With ATI Graphics and resolution of 1366 x 768, this backlit 13.3 inches Toshiba 135D laptop provides optimum picture quality for better gaming. However, if you try to view in sunlight then its glossy screen might create some problem due to reflection.

Toshiba Satellite T135D

Build wise both Toshiba satellite 135 and 135D are similar with glossy outlook. Also, the fine checkered pattern enriches its looks. One can choose the model between red, black and white colors.

The keyboard of both Toshiba satellite T135 and T135D are similar and comfortable to use.

The multi touch touchpad of Toshiba satellite, having size 3.2 x 1.6, has enough width compared to its height. So, one can move comfortably in horizontal direction while he might feel little obstacle moving vertically.

Toshiba Satellite T135D comes with 3 USB ports along with LAN, audio jack and VGA and HDMI ports.

It also incorporates Kensington Lock slot.

Battery life of Toshiba satellite T135D is, however, not very impressive and runs approx 6 hours only.

Performance wise Toshiba satellite T135D is better than intel based Toshiba satellite T135 as it is faster than the later. It is integrated with ATI graphics which is definitely good when it comes to gaming. Price wise it is cheaper by $100 than its counterpart Toshiba satellite T135 so I prefer it over T135.

Pros

Toshiba satellite is good performance wise.

Keyword is user friendly.

Price is reasonable.

Cons

Average battery life.

Have some heat related issues.

Final thought

Buying ultra-thin Toshiba satellite T135D at $599 is worth the money as it provides great performance and better graphics. Even though battery life of this AMD integrated Toshiba’s ultra thin model is not up to the mark still it makes sense to invest in it.

December 12th, 2009 No comments

When it comes to buying laptop in the market, Toshiba is often the most recommended brands by industry experts. It has certainly proven its longevity in the business while continually innovating technology to adapt to the changing market needs. One such product is the all-new Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL with a price range of $329-399 that is more expensive than Apple’s iBook. Now, one is led to question whether it is worth shelling out that much money? Find out all the answers below.

Overview of Features

In comparison to other models of netbook in the market today, Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL does a pretty decent job of holding its own. It is even able to outdo some of the other brands that belong to the same price category like HP or Asus, to name a few, which is impressive given that the said brands are quite well known in the laptop market. Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL performs tasks efficiently, thanks to the impressive Intel Atom N280 CPU processor, 1GB RAM, and 160GB 5,400 rpm HDD. However, it is not as powerful as most of the current laptops in the market, such that you can even find something with the same level of performance for at least $100.

There are several features about Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL that is worthy of checking this out. The texture design of the model is worthy of mention. In addition, the fingerprint-resistant lid helps maintain a clean looking surface free of blots and other prints. For those who are conscious about style, then you can choose from a wide range of color variety available for this model.

When it comes to the touchpad and keyboard performance, Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL is a bit on the fair side – it does not impress nor does it disappoint. One main concern though with the hardware is the audio, which is really lacking in quality. It would have offered a nice complement to the impressive 1,024×600 native resolution display screen for optimum viewing quality. As for efficient features, there are up to 3 USB ports that you can use for multi-tasking. Meanwhile, conducting basic tasks as opening word documents, web surfing, video streaming, among others, can be done in an efficient speed rate.

Pro’s

Below are some great benefits you can enjoy when you decide to purchase Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL:

• The highly responsive and broad touchpad makes navigation quite easy.

• The battery life is more impressive in comparison to its laptop counterparts.

Con’s

Below are some drawbacks to Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL that you need to take note of before buying:

• Despite its hefty price tag, this laptop model does not offer anything revolutionary that would set it apart from other models in the market.

• The bulky battery is awkward to look at.

• The audio system is really lacking in quality that depletes the multimedia enjoyment.

Final Comments

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL is probably one of those laptops that consumers had a high expectation of when it was revealed in the market. In some cases, it failed to meet that expectation. But for those looking for a reliable machine to work with, it does a pretty excellent job in offering functional features

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980: product review

December 12th, 2009 No comments

At first impression, you really can’t argue that Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 looks nice. It has got some features too that are ideal for students and professionals alike. But beyond that, how does this laptop model fair against other laptops in the market?

Overview

Like the S6960 model, Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 is equipped with a Fusion Finish to produce a sonic black pattern. Needless to say, it is looking nice with a stylish design, pin-stripe pattern, glossy lid, excellent palm rest, and speaker grills. At a budget price of $629.99, one can often not believe right away that this laptop is actually priced as such, especially when you get to explore its other features.

The keyboard is large and there is also a full number pad to the right side, which is missing in some other laptop brands. Thus, the space on this laptop is fully utilized from one end to another. However, its glossy finish makes it prone to gathering lots of unsightly fingerprints. But it is made up by the presence of touch-sensitive media controls and webcam (along with a mic) on top of the screen.

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 comes with a thick body though and a 6-cell battery that comes with an extended life span. The screen size though is typical for the laptop’s actual size, and yet it comes with an impressive 1,366×768 native resolution.

As for the real test and benchmark, the performance of Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 is a small step up its predecessor. Thanks to the 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T660 processor, 500GB 5,400 rpm hard drive, and 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory. The operating system is 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, such that performance of this laptop is quite excellent. If you are not satisfied with its natural performance yet, you can make upgrades and it is very easy to do since the memory and hard drive compartments are easily accessible at the bottom. One noticeable lacking feature though is the Bluetooth, although it does have a wide range of port selection.

Pro’s

There are some wonderful benefits that you can enjoy buying Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980, such as the following:

The large display screen provides you with optimum viewing pleasure, especially for multimedia purposes.

In addition to an impressive display, the speakers come with huge sounds and produces topnotch audio quality.

This laptop model has an excellent battery life for long lasting use.

Con’s

Although some features make Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 a functional laptop, there are some lacking features or others that still need improvement:

If you are looking for a compact laptop, this one is a bit to heavy to lug around and is not convenient for portable purposes.

Although the battery comes with an excellent life span, it is too massive such that it looks awkward, aesthetically speaking.

It lacks Bluetooth functionality, which has become one of the standard features for most modern laptops.

Final Thoughts

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 comes with some excellent features such as good build and design, excellent quality speakers, and a terrific battery life, especially for its size. Thus, it makes a great addition to mainstream laptop choices, particularly for consumers who are looking for budget laptop.
