The target has invalid calibration data (0) – Pickit 3

October 21st, 2011

Question -  I am trying to use the microchip 12F510 with Pickit 3 debugger. However, when I try to connect, it gives the following error -

“The target has invalid calibration data (0).”

Any suggestions ?

Check the last memory location has 000 after successful build.

This may likely the issue. The instruction in the last memory location must be in the form of a MOVLW XX instruction where XX is the calibration value. Note, however, the programmer must be connected to your target before the last memory location will show the calibration value. That is, if you do not have the programmer connected to your target it will not be able to read calibration value from the device and building the code without the programmer connected will not update the memory window with the correct data. Try the following steps.

1.) Build the code and make note of the last memory instruction.
2.) Select the Pic Kit3 as the Programmer(not a debugger) and connect to your target.
3.) After connecting is complete make note of the last memory instruction. Did it change to a MOVLW instruction?
