Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130   is a 15.6 inch notebook powered by AMD’s latest fusion processor – the E-240 – which AMD calls the Accelerated Processing Unit or APU. If you have not heard about APU, it stands for the new chip formed out of the “fusion” of the the processor and the graphics unit. The Processor section in E-240 is is a single core Bobcat core clocked at 1.6 GHz. The integrated graphics is surprisingly fast and will let you play many games at entry level. While we can not say that this is a moderate performance computing machine, we can definitely say that it is decent for the home computing requirement for email, web surfing, spreadsheet and documents. If you are looking for a moderate performance, you may like to move on and check some of the dual core processor based notebooks. If you are looking for and inexpensive notebook with decent graphics performance the E-240 based Satellite C655D-S5130 notebook.

The Satellite C655D-S5130 comes with 3 GB of RAM and 250 GB of hard disk. Toshiba has attempted to keep the cost under control and provided with the just enough RAM and hard disk. The notebook is available exclusively at Walmart, and, if we are to believe MSRP – the prices are going to be under $400.

The Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130 comes with 15.6 inch screen at 1366×768 resolution. Its graphics is powered by the integrated graphics in the E-240 APU. The graphics is called ATI Radeon HD 6310. Notice that ATI Radeon HD6310 is not an external discrete graphics component. It does use shared memory but gives out decent graphics performance.

The Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130 comes with DVD-SuperMulti drive (+/-R double layer) and a webcam, even though it is priced for an entry level segment. It does come with 2 USB ports and wired and wireless networking feature. The 6+ hours of battery life is yet another feature that your would like to take a note of. On the down side the Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130 does not come with HDMI – but then we are asking for too much for a laptop under $400.
