Some details about the individual components

Processor

The Pentium P6200 that powers the Satellite L635-S3100RD Notebook is a 2.13 GHz dual core processor that gives a decent performance. The processor is based upon the same architecture as the Intel core i3 processor. Both the core i3 and the Pentium P6200 have integrated memory controller and both have 3 MB of L3 Cache. Pentium P6200 is actually slightly stripped down version of the core i3 processor. For example you will find that the hyperthreading is disabled in the Pentium P6200. We should therefore expect that the performance of the Pentium P6200 is slightly lower than that of t he Intel core i3 processor.

RAM and Hard Disk

Toshiba Satellite L635-S3100RD comes with 4 GB of RAM and a huge 500 GB of hard disk. This makes this laptop suitable for the moderate to high end computing.

Display

Toshiba L635-S3100RD has been designed with mobility in mind. It therefore, comes with a smaller 13.3″ LCD screen. It comes with a resolution of 1366×768 and supports the native 720p resolution.

Notice that it does not has HDMI connector, so you will not be able to display the content in an external LCD HDTV or projector.

Other Features

Toshiba Satellite L635-S3100RD comes with the wired and wireless connectivity features. It has 2 USB Ports and a combined USB/eSATA port. The integrated webcam will let you chat with family and friends. Even though it is a small notebook, it does come with DVD writer, that will let you watch movie and install software that come on DVD.

Bottomline

We find the Toshiba Satellite L635-S3100RD decent alternative to the netbooks as it come with a better processor. It attempts to keep the mobility factor in mind with its 13.3 inch LCD screen. However we find that its MSRP price of $629.99 to be slightly more for the Pentium P6200 based notebooks. We suggest that you also research for some Intel core i3 based processors, which have slightly better performance. You should certainly be able to find something in this price range. An intel i5 based notebook will be even better.
