The recently released Toshiba Satellite M645-S4110 is a 14 inch notebook powered by Intel’s dual core i3-380M, 2.53 GHz processor, the highest clocked Intel i3 processor in the Arrandale series. The processor is decent for your entry level as well as moderate computing needs. It has 3 MB of L3 Cache and better in performance than the Intel’s own more publicized Pentium P6200 processor. But if you are looking for a high end computing, you may like to take a look at core i5 or core i7 based notebooks.

The notable features of the Toshiba Satellite M645-S4110 include an impressive 5+ hours of battery life and HDMI output that can be used to display the content of the notebook on a TV or an external device supporting HDMI input. The notebook is well built with raised keyboards, reminiscent of the some of the Sony’s Vaio line. On the downside, we feel that its MSRP price listed as $785.99 at Toshiba ( and available exclusively at Best Buy), is slightly overpriced. We expect that the prices should drop quite a bit to make it more affordable. Also the laptop is weak in graphics, in case you need to use it to play high end games.

As part of the Toshiba Satellite M645-S4110 review, we will present the key points in its brief specification. We do think that a short specification has a place in review, especially since the original manufacturer’s longer version often confuses by giving more information than we need. For example, the Toshiba lists over 20 software that come preloaded with this notebook. Does anyone need the list ? So here is a short specification list that hopes to cover the key ingredients of Toshiba Satellite M645-S4110.

– Intel Core i3-330M, 2.53 GHz, dual core, 3 MB L3 Cache
– 4 GB RAM, 640 GB Hard Disk
– 14 inch LCD Screen, LED backlit, driven by Mobile Intel HD graphics, 1366 x 768 resolution
– Inbuilt Webcam
– DVD Drive
– 10/100 Ethernet ( not Gigabit), Integrated wifi, 802.11a/g/b, WiDi Capable
– 2 USB, one eSATA / USB combo, Memory Card Reader
– WiMax Enabled

As you can see, the Toshiba Satellite M645-S4110 is equipped with everything that you need for a moderate computing requirement. Weighing just 5.4 lbs, The Satellite M645-S4110 is especially suited for the persons who need computing power and internet access ( this notebook is WiMax enabled) while on the go. It may be worthwhile to review the individual components of this notebook.

The intel core i3-380M, the dual core, 2.53 GHz processor, that powers the Satellite M645-S4110 comes with 3 MB of L3 cache and gives decent performance even for your moderate computing needs. Its integrated memory controller reduces the memory latency and makes processor to memory communication fast. On the down side we can not categarize it as high end computing machine, a space reserved for Intel’s core i5 and core i7 processors, that support turbo boost. The question is – do you need the high end computing power ?

Hard Disk and RAM

Satellite M645-S4110 comes with 4 GB of RAM and 640 GB of hard disk. This should be more than sufficient for most of your computing needs

The Satellite M645-S4110 comes with 14 inch screen with 1366 x 768 resolution. The display is driven by the Intel HD grahics. You can project the contents of the notebook on HDMI connector and see its content on LCD TV. On the other hand the graphics engine is not suitable for high end games.

Other Features

The notebook does come with other features, that most notebooks come with. It has wired and wireless internet support, 2 USB connectors, a DVD drive, webcam and memory card reader. Additionally it is intel’s widi enabled, so you can project the contents of the notebook on TV wirelessly. You will need a separate adapter at TV end.
