Tulum is often thought of as only the archeological ruins, which made Tulum famous. Tulum is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city. You will find these ruins on 39 feet cliffs. These cliffs are located on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is on the Caribbean sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. In addition, you will find endless beaches, craft markets, restaurants, a wildlife reserve, and other outdoor activities.
The Maya site in Tulum is one of the best-preserved costal Maya sites. There are daily tour buses bringing visitors to the site. These ruins are the third most-visited archeological site in Mexico. People also like to visit here because of the picturesque view of the Caribbean. A location is located 80 miles form Cancun. Tulum is divided into four main areas. There is the archeological site, the town, the hotel zone, and the biosphere reserve of Sian Ka`an.
The hotel zones are boutique hotels on the Tulum beach. There over 40 small hotels and most of them are cabanas, which is made into the traditional Maya style. Most of them have thatched roofs. In this zone, you can also find a few restaurants and beach clubs. Inexpensive cabanas with hammocks are still available. Most of these accommodations are rustic, which means that electricity in the hotel zone is either non-existent or generated on site.
Tulum’s idea of picturesque accommodations is the view and not the creature comforts. Most of the places are dependent on wind and solar power. There is no air conditioning but the cool breeze off the ocean cools on all but the hottest nights. At the Centro Ecologico de Sian Ka’an headquarters, you are offered rustic lodging in large military tents on wooden platforms with hammock-adorned porches along the beach. One of the drawbacks to staying here is the bathroom is communal. One other place you can sleep is to rent a hammock under palapas for $10 a night
If you are wanted to eat, there is an Italian restaurant that specializes in homemade pasta and fresh fish. Other restaurants specialize in Mexican and American food and dozens of places to buy chicken. You will not find any nightclubs or nightlife to there.
To get to Tulum, just take a bus from the Cancun Airport to Tulum, or you can rent a car at the airport, but if you do not plan to stuff your days with sightseeing, it is just as easy to take a bus to Tulum. You can also snorkel, scuba dive, and visit under ground caves, and the Maya Ruins.
This is a good place to take a family vacation. They will make memories to last a lifetime. Where else can you go and get to spend the night in a hammock.
