VP8 Video Codec

When you have heard of the Video Codec, the first one that comes to your mind is the H.264 codec. There are other video codecs and if you are in the field of the video compression , it may be a good idea to know about the VP8 Video Vodec.

The VP8 video codec is a open source video codec that was developed originally by On2 technology and owned by Google.

The Intellectual Property right for the VP8 format was released by Google on May 19, 2010 under what is known as irrevocable patent promise. The source code for the VP8 codec was also released by Google. It is still not clear if the license for the VP8 is a real open source license.
